"In USA, the government commissioned CATO Institute Report "Speed Does not Kill" (http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa-346es.html) found that accidents actually decreased when speed limits where raised. In Norway (reported in Aftenposten 27 Mar 2003), accidents have been decreased where speed limits have been increased. In Italy, on implementing increased speed limits the Roads Minister Pietro Lunardi commented on 9 Feb 2003 "All psychologists and doctors say people who go faster, drive better and are more careful. Only 9% of fatal accidents were caused by speeding. Where it is safe to go faster, it is the right thing to do.""

So, I'm moving house. Lets get the internet connected. Sounds simple enough.
Monday, I went through a tonne of web sites looking for naked adsl. The internet through your phone, for those who don't want to rent a phone line. So its internet with no calls basically. Rang a few companies up, can't get it out here. Despite the fact Sunbury is quite huge. Tried cable, it's WAY too expensive. I never got around to trying Internode though. After sitting on the phone waiting to talk to someone for an hour to an hour and a half I gave up.
I worked on the house all during Tuesday. 9am-9pm.
I tried Internode again. "We are currently experiencing an emergency situation right now, we're sorry there is no one to take your call, please leave a *hangup*." I tried them again a few hours later only to sit there for 25 minutes again and just hung up.
I then found this regarding Sunbury:
"This Exchange would have been enabled for ADSL2+ by OPEL (and provided backhaul solutions for others) if the OPEL funding was not withdrawn by the Rudd government."
I've said this many times and I will say it again, I AM PROUD TO HAVE VOTED FOR JOHN HOWARD AND ALL OF YOU WHO VOTED FOR RUDD ARE MORONS. This government has just done so many shitty things. And NOW they want to give every one 1000 bucks to stimulate the economy? ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?
I then accpeted, that I'm going to have to get a phone line, and then get my internet through that. I hate Telstra with a fury that could burn a field of pants so I was left with Optus. Who I am also starting to hate very much so as well. Unfortuantly they also have the cheapest phone deal. NO phone companies will just RENT you a phone line. Oh no, you have to get all this other CALL crap with it. I don't want to make any calls you shit bells, I just want the internet. Called up Optus.
"Welcome to blahblahblah... please say in a few words what your call is about"
"Sales"
"Are you calling about technical support services?"
"No"
"Please say in a few words what your call is about"
"Phone sales"
"Are you calling about getting your phone connected?"
"Yep"
"Do you want information on the available plans and options or do you want to change an existing plan"
"No"
"I'm sorry, I didn't *hangup*"
So I went to their contact page, brought up email and sent them this:
"I would like to connect my home phone to your $19.95 plan. However dealing with your automated switchboard is an act I place on the same level of eating glass. Can someone please call me to organise this."
I then received this:
"Your post has been received and will be given prompt attention."
On the previous screen, where I enter my message it said this:
"Thanks for your enquiry. Optus will respond to your email within 2 business days."
On that note the Optus site is incredibly shit. It has a tone of broken pages, gives me errors continuously and can only be navigated by an extremely drunk white man with no fingers, because that is who designed this site. I had to do a web search to find their page regarding Cable Internet. At least Telstra has the dignity to take the money they rip off of people to design their site properly.
Now I know I'm not going to get a call back, because I didn't go through the "proper channels", those being the phone. |
