RACV letters, August 2008
My personal reactions to some letters in the AUGUST 2008 RACV magazine. This month there was some pretty dumb things. I didnt even read a letter about some electric car registration issue, because honestly, electric cars are WORSE for the environment. As all informed people know.
EXPERIENCED HYPOCRISY: (I aprove this letter)
We justly complain about dangerous driving by P-Platers, but I wonder about their role models. My 19-year-old has been driving his car since last November. He was tailgated and abused by a driver all the way to his workplace, after he moved over to allow a fire-truck . with lights and sirens on, to get past him. He has been abused and almost knocked over when his car broke down, tailgated and abused when he wouldn't speed, threatened with violence by a driver who wanted to get onto a narrow driveway that my son was exiting but waiting for traffic to clear, had his car broken into, and was sideswiped by an anonymous driver just last week. These are the incidents I know about! Hypocrisy is a lousy teacher.

My personal response:
I tried to write a popper response to this item to send to the magazine but it didnt turn out so well, so here is what I have to say. YES! THE POLICE IS STUPID! LETS TARGET HOONS! THEY ARE BAD DRIVERS! HONESTLY! SHEEEIIIIT! I see more crap in the city by regular drivers than hoons. Cars nearly hitting people coming out of trams, cars running red lights, cars not giving way to pedestrians, phone usage, failing to indicate, not letting turning trucks take two lanes and tonnes of other shit. I feel safer spinning on the spot in a car park while playing with my hand brake than driving in the town with stupid drivers. I AT LEAST know what Im doing. I know what a stop sign looks like on a tram with open doors. Obviously. Since Im a hoon and I know how to drive. Duh. Cops are looking at the wrong people.
SLOW AND SAFE: (I despise this letter)
In these times of costly fuel prices, it would make sense to reduce the speed limit by at least 10km/h, especially on freeways. This would result in a 10% saving on fuel and safer roads. From my observation of freeways with speed restrictions due to roadworks, traffic flow seems to be smoother. When you see 110, drive 100. When you see 90, drive 70 ect.

My personal response:
ARE YOU DUMB? ARE YOU SERIOUSLY THAT DUMB? Reduce the speed limit, increase travel time, increase fuel consumption. Especially on freeways? Uh, HELLO! The whole idea of high speeds on freeways and highways is to ensure the fastest travel time between FAR AWAY LANDS! YOU KNOW! LIKE OTHER
INCENTIVE, PLEASE: (I despise this letter)
The Federal Government could encourage drivers to own more fuel-efficient vehicles. Vehicles above the $57,000 luxury car tax threshold that have average fuel economy of less than 10L/100km could be tax-free.
Mark Summers, Brightton.
My personal response:
Why not just buy a car for 20,000 bucks instead? I would imagine youd save... mmm.. about $37,000 easily in fuel that way. Nigger.
IT'S THE LAW: (I lean towards despising this letter.)
Speeding is rife in the

My personal response:
I bet, they go fast, to make up for the time lost behind you. Since you go 10-20 kms under the speed limit. Im all about sticking to the speed limit, AS LONG AS EVERY ONE ELSE DOES AS WELL! People who go UNDER the speed limit drive me to speed at times. If I need to get somewhere on time, then someone decides for a sunday drive by the lake with the family in the car and icecreams in every ones hand, including the driver, decides to get in front of me while Im on the way to the airport... Well... I can tell you... And I can tell by the line building up behind me, that every one is angry. STICK to the speed limit. Go THE speed limit. Not over, not under. And the world will be safe.
PROGRAM FUEL USE: (I care not for this letter)
One Suggestion to reduce fuel usage on modern cars would be to program the computer to only allow a certain number of litres per 100km through the system. My Falcon indicates to me the litres/100km as I drive. When I accelerate it can go up to 39L/100km and when I cruise it generally goes to about 6L/100km, my average is 9.3/100km. I have manually been testing to keep this figure around 10L/100km and found all this does is reduce the acceleration of my car. If you could set the maximum litres/100km to be used, I think you'd be able to drastically reduce fuel consumption. To alleviate the annoyance to following cars, there could be an education campaign and stickers on the bumper warning motorists of why the car is accelerating slowly up hills, ext.

My response:
