Blue submarine 6 is a short 4 episodes and is reasonably entertaining. Although it could have been a little longer and in turn a bit nicer. It was also one of those manga/comic based animes where many things do not end up being explained properly either due to lack of time or lack of effort.
Basically, its the world. And its quite flooded. And there are these giant fish things and whale things. And robot fish things. And whale torpedoes. And dog people. And cat people. And fish people. And shark people. And normal people. Yes, there are normal people. And they’re trying to kill each other. You know, land people vs sea people. And there is this submarine. Well, there are MANY submarines. But this one is special. Because its number 6. And it has the most interesting story to tell apparently.
So there’s this chick. Guy. Chick. Guy... Its a chick. And the series starts out with her trying to rerecruit an old crew member who apparently is really good. And they need him for this big thing that’s going down. And he’s a little hot shot wuss because he cant be stuffed. So stuff happens and he finally decides to join. So then there’s explosions, submarine fights, explosions, then they’re at this giant underwater base. Oh yeah and there’s this giant battle ship riding on the back of a giant fish. Anyway, at this base they all get together and talk about this guy. Zorndyke. I assumed he’s a scientist. I have no idea where he came from. I have no idea why he did stuff. But he’s there. And he’s the big mean man who made all these fish people and all this giant whale subs and stuff. And the people want to kill him. So they go about and plan stuff and try to nuke him.
So this Zorndyke is like.. a really old man. He has a grudge against the world. He has plans of shipping the magnetic field of the earth so the north and south poles melt, thus flooding the rest of the people in the world. Uhah, kill him and every body wins. Except him. Weeeeelll, he lives at the south pole in Antarctica. And its surrounded by all of those wale subs and fish people. Pretty tough. So all the subs of the world go for one final mission. To nuke it. But you see, the chick guy and the hot shot want to go out and meet this guy. So they do, stuff happens and they find out stuff and they realise that this guy wasn’t so crazy after all. Oh and he cant actually shift the caps. He hasn’t got the energy to do it. So he assumed that they would throw nukes at him and that would trigger the shift. Oh yeah, Antarctica is actually a giant geothermal plant of some kind, I wouldn’t have a clue. But its got lots of grass and trees and cat/dog people. I think I might has seen a cow.
Anyway, he was crazy enough to be shot and every one wins. Oh except the hot shot, because he has the shit beaten out of him but a giant shark man and then every one decides to work together. Or that’s at least what I think. I wouldn’t know. They didn’t tell me anything.
Basically, this anime was very very compacted and fast. They tried to push a lot into one small package and tried to explain as much as possible really quickly, in turn missing a lot and making me miss things at times. And the way they put the voices into the creatures? No.. Just no. Its not too bad for such an old anime, there’s lots of explosions and action. Although a lot of the explosions look the same and they are all underwater mostly.. so meh. It was interesting, but nothing spectacular.
